How Are Same-Day Crowns Possible?

But at Brent Bradford, DDS, we fabricate your crown right here in our office! We use a state-of-the-art CEREC machine to both design and craft your dental crown in a single visit.
CEREC is an acronym for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics,” referring to the machine’s ability to use CAD/CAM technology to fabricate restorations. CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/manufacturing) allows us to design and craft your dental crown.
The process only takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of your case. And when your crown is ready, we will fit it over your tooth and cement it in place to restore your smile in a single visit!
The Same-Day Crowns Process
The same-day crown process at Brent Bradford, DDS, is simple.
- The Consultation: During your initial appointment, we will take a 3D digital X-ray of your smile. This allows us to take a closer look at the issues you’re having and determine what treatment may be appropriate. If your tooth is infected or damaged, we may use a dental crown to restore it and keep your smile functional.
- The Preparation: To fit a dental crown, your tooth will need some enamel removed. Using specialized dental tools, we will remove a thin layer of enamel on all sides of your tooth. Then, we’ll use the 3D image of your smile to design a crown that fits over your tooth. The restoration will resemble your natural teeth, fitting into your smile without trouble.
- The Fabrication: Our state-of-the-art CEREC machine will then fabricate your crown out of a durable ceramic material! Using the already-made designs, this milling process creates your crown with incredible attention to detail.
- The Fitting: Once your dental crown is ready, we will fit it over your prepared tooth. If everything looks and feels good, we’ll cement it in place, with no temporary crown or waiting necessary! If you want any changes made to the fit or appearance of your crown, we can typically make them while you’re in the chair.
On the very same day we prepare your tooth for a dental crown, we will send you home with a brand-new, functional crown restoration. Of course, your tooth may be sensitive for a period of time after the procedure. Most patients control any discomfort with over-the-counter pain medications.
