Traditional dentures are custom-fit to your gums and jaw. When first crafted, the fit is usually secure, allowing you to smile, talk, and chew confidently. However, it isn’t meant to last. Without natural tooth roots to stimulate your jaw, it will gradually lose bone mass and volume. Unfortunately, a shrinking jaw affects the security of your denture! When loose on your gums, dentures create a variety of problems that affect your smile’s ability to function. If you’ve replaced your missing teeth but are still struggling to chew, you may be left wondering what to do if your dentures are loose. Fortunately, Brent Bradford, DDS, has a solution! We offer incredible implant-supported dentures that keep your smile functional and secure.
What To Do With Loose Dentures
When your denture prosthetic keeps slipping around on your gums, it may be time to secure it with dental implants.
These titanium screws embed in your jawbone, anchoring in place to support your denture prosthetic. With implants in place, patients like you significantly enhance the stability and comfort of your smile! Say goodbye to slipping and sliding and hello to a secure smile that lasts.
Lower dentures, in particular, are prone to movement over time, as they don’t even use suction (like an upper denture) for support. However, by anchoring your denture to your jawbone, we create a stable foundation for your prosthetic to rely on.
Using Snap-In Implant Dentures To Secure Your Smile
Typically, when securing a loose denture, we offer patients snap-in dentures. These prosthetics require four implants on the bottom and six on the top to provide effective and comfortable function. While this may sound like a lot of implants to fit in your jaw, we use mini dental implants, which are small and minimally invasive. Placing these titanium posts requires only one appointment, eliminating the need for incisions or stitches. Instead, immediately after placing these implants in your jaw, they become stable enough to support your restoration!
Amazingly, these dentures have special housings containing rubber O-rings, allowing the denture to snap securely onto your implants. With these O-rings, you can remove your denture at any time by “snapping” it off, and “snapping” it back in when you’re ready! While on your implants, this prosthetic is stable, not moving under any chewing pressure. Then, for easy maintenance, you can remove it to keep your smile healthy and happy.
In some cases, we may be able to use your current denture and refit it to function as a snap-in denture. By adding housings to the denture base and placing your implants, we transform your loose denture into a secure and perfect fit!
Unfortunately, not many traditional dentures are built to fit implants, so this process isn’t always possible. To find out if you can transform your loose dentures, you’ll need to visit us in Syracuse, NY.
