How Many Implants Are Required to Stabilize My Denture?
In the following video, Brent Bradford, DDS, explains how the amount of implants that will be required for denture retention varies depending on each patient’s individual case.
To stabilize a denture, the number of implants required varies depending on whether it’s the upper or lower denture. For the upper denture, we typically place six implants. This is partly to allow for the removal of the denture’s palate, which can cover your taste buds in a conventional denture.
By removing the palate, you can enjoy the full taste of your food again with an implant-retained denture. For the lower denture, four implants are usually sufficient to provide stability and prevent the denture from shifting. Fewer implants are needed for the lower denture because it does not require a palate component and is naturally more stable.
