What Is a Denture Reline?
In the following video, Brent Bradford, DDS, explains our service of adjusting and refitting upper and lower dentures that have become loose due to natural changes in facial structure.
A denture reline is a common procedure required when a conventional denture starts to fit less securely over time. This usually happens because, after teeth are extracted, the gum tissue undergoes a natural process of shrinkage or resorption, leading to a looser-fitting denture.
This can result in the denture wobbling, moving around, causing discomfort, or even creating sore spots on the gums. To address this, we ask patients to return to our office.
We then use their existing denture as a custom impression tray to take an updated mold of their current gum tissue, which reflects the changes that have occurred. This impression is sent to our dental lab, where the interior of the denture is refilled and adjusted to compensate for the changes in the gum tissue, ensuring a snugger, more comfortable fit.
If you’re experiencing issues with your denture fit, please contact us. We’re here to assess whether a reline is necessary and to help you enjoy a comfortable and functional denture once again.
