Does Periodontal Disease Treatment Hurt?
In the following video, Brent Bradford, DDS, discusses the minimal discomfort typically experienced during gum disease treatment.
If you’re considering treatment for periodontal disease, it’s understandable to be concerned about potential discomfort. Rest assured, we aim to make the procedure as pain-free as possible. If there’s any concern about discomfort, we can administer a local anesthetic to numb the area completely. For many patients, we apply what is known as a topical anesthetic—a cream that numbs the gums sufficiently to prevent any pain from the dental instruments.
After the treatment, it’s normal for the gums to feel a bit achy for a day or so, but this sensation is typically mild. In most cases, it’s so gentle that there’s no need for Tylenol or any other pain medication. Our goal is to ensure your comfort throughout your periodontal treatment.
